Dear Friends,
My name is Vanessa Lau. I am a 3rd year marketing student and I'm a small girl with some pretty big goals - to be exact, I'm running to be your next CUS President.
I'm a people-person, a passionate leader, and an extremely proud Sauderite. I could probably continue to give a solid list of adjectives that better describe me, but thanks to COMM202, you can always read my StrengthsQuest. On my LinkedIn, you'll also find a snapshot of both my professional and campus life involvements, in addition to a list of my strongest skills according to my peers.
I'm a results-driven leader and I enjoy building strong networks in which everyone can thrive in. I not only build relationships, but I can also sustain them.
Vote for me as your next CUS President, and let's write CUS history together.

Currently, I sit on the CUS Executive team as the Vice-President Marketing and Communications. Although some of you may think all I do is send the CUSunday every week, I manage the entire marketing portfolio: The Cavalier, Sauder Squad, the Prospectus and Yearbook, AmbaSauder, and Associate VP Marketing. I've also been heavily involved in helping directors create their marketing plans for several CUS Conferences and other services external of my own portfolio. My role as Executive also extends to being a part of both small and large scale decisions for the CUS by participating in monthly Board meetings alongside weekly Executive meetings.
Through my extensive work with the CUS, I've not only become knowledgeable about the internal workings of our student society, but I have also gained a strong understanding of what the CUS means to students through my own undergraduate experience: as a first year rep, as a club president, as a service member, as an executive, and as a student myself.
Whether you recognize it or not, the CUS plays an integral role in our undergraduate experience. A portion of your student fees goes to the CUS and therefore, it is essential that every single penny goes back to students with their best interest always in mind. Whether it's better events, higher quality mentorship programs, or even an extra coffee machine, the CUS is there to create value to our students.
With many of the students who have been a part of the CUS for years leaving the organization, the next leadership on the CUS Board of Directors and Executive team can ultimately determine the success or failure of our student society (and yes, that affects you too!).
In other words, the CUS will be a blank canvas. Therefore, it is important that someone with the right leadership skills (and a dash of infectious enthusiasm) coupled with a strong knowledge base of the CUS' operations, to take on the Presidential role.
When voting, I hope you keep those ideas in mind and to vote knowing that there's a huge opportunity for organizational change. I hope that you all choose to make an informed decision and that we all step up to create positive change within—and beyond—our Commerce Undergraduate Society.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Lau
2015 CUS Elections Candidate
